Law Summer School (LSS) Cairo

Enid Hill, Professor Emerita and former Chair of the Department of Law, AUC

Enid Hill is Professor Emerita and former Chair of the Department of Law of the American University in Cairo. She holds an MA and Ph.D. in Political Science from the University of Chicago and an LL.M in Law from the University College London. She joined the AUC initially to teach Political Theory and Comparative Government and Politics, then participated in establishing a political economy MA program and taught in that. She was chair of the Political Science Department of the AUC from 1990 to 1994, 1998 to 2001 and finally 2004 to 2005. She was a visiting lecturer at the Japanese Institute of Developing Economies, Tokyo, in 1996 and coordinated the AUC faculty participation in Hitoshibashi University’s workshops on Culture and Development from 1997 to 2000. She has also served as editor of the Cairo Papers in Social Science from 1997 to 2001. For the past several years her research and publications have included a study of Egypt's laws and judicial institutions, and her teaching interests shifted to include Egyptian law. This led to the realization that a law program at AUC would be highly desirable, and with much help from many people and donor organizations first the International Human Rights Law Program was established (2001), then the Ibrahim Shihata Memorial LL.M. Program in International and Comparative Law (2004). Enid Hill is a member of the Advisory Board of the LL.M. Program since 2004.
