Susanne Baer, Professor of Public Law and Gender Studies, LL.M.

Susanne Baer is Full Professor of Public Law and Gender Studies at the Humboldt University Berlin. Prior to her appointment in 2002, she was Visiting Professor of Public Law at the Universities of Bielefeld in 2001/02 and Erfurt in 2001. She is Visiting Faculty for German Constitutional Law and Comparative Constitutionalism at the Central European University, Budapest, since 2000, and has been teaching Sex Equality Law as a Guest Professor at the Johannes Kepler-University in Linz, Austria, and at other institutions. She studied law at the Free University Berlin and took the two German state exams in 1988 and 1991, before earning an LL.M. from the University of Michigan Law School, Ann Arbor, in 1992/93, and her Ph.D. in 1995 from Johann Wolfgang Goethe-University in Frankfurt. Susanne Baer received her venia legendi in 2000 from the Humboldt University Berlin. She has served as Vice President for Academic and International Affairs at the Humboldt University Berlin in 2005/06 and as the director of the Centre for Transdisciplinary Gender Studies at HU Berlin from 2002 to 2005. She is also been the director of the Gender Competence Centre at Humboldt University , funded by the German Federal Government, since 2003, and advises the European Commission on equality in research politics. Her current research activities include work on Comparative Constitutionalism (West 2004), gender, diversity and law, socio-cultural legal studies and cooperation in the integrated European project QUING, on quality in gender and equality policies.
