Anton K. Schnyder, Professor of Private, Business, Private International and Civil Procedural Law as well as Comparative Law

Anton K. Schnyder is Full Professor of Private, Business, Private International and Civil Procedural Law as well as Comparative Law at the University of Zurich. Prior to his appointment in Zurich in spring 2003, he was Full Professor of Private Law at the University of Basle, Switzerland, from 1993 till March 2003. He earned his MA and Ph.D. at the University of Zurich in 1973 and 1981, and an LL.M. at the University of California in Berkeley in 1982. He was a visiting scholar at the Max Planck Institute for Foreign and Private International Law in Hamburg and was conferred his venia legendi in 1990 for his habilitation on International Business Law. Between 1987 and 1993 he served as corporate legal adviser to the general secretariat of the Zurich InsuranceGroup, from 1992 in the capacity of member of the management. He was vice-president from 1994 to 2004 and president of the Federal Appeal Commission for the Supervision of Private Insurances from February 2004 till December 2006. Anton K. Schnyder was also president of the Federal Expertise Commission on the General Revision of the Insurance Contract Law, adviser to the government of Liechtenstein in matters of insurance law, member of the scientific board of the Max Planck Institute for Foreign and  Private International Law and of the Board of the Basel Institute for Governance as well as of a number of other legal associations in and outside Switzerland. He is the appointed delegate of the Faculty of Law for questions of mobility.
